Draw Your Stutter
My new book released March 25, 2025!

Grab a pencil and start your adventure!
Join Franky Banky, a fox who stutters, and his sidekick Ti-Ger, a tiger who represents Franky Banky’s stutter, on a fun and creative journey where you will design your own cartoon character based on your stutter.
This activity will help you explore how you feel about your speech and see your stutter as something separate from yourself. You might even start to see it in a new way — maybe even as a sidekick, just like how Ti-Ger is to Franky Banky. You’ll also learn how to draw comics with your new character and share what stuttering is like, and help other people understand it better.
This book is great for kids and adults alike and you don’t need to know how to draw. Get ready to have fun, get creative, and see your stutter in a whole new way!
While this book is mainly about stuttering, its ideas can apply to many parts of life. Even if you don’t stutter, you might find it helpful for your own challenges!
80 pages, black and white
ISBN: 978-0-9921632-9-7
About Draw Your Stutter
This book was inspired by a powerful cartooning workshop I gave at STAMMAFest, where over 50 participants turned their stutters into unique characters. The experience was transformative — some saw their stutter as a quirky sidekick, while others gained a newfound sense of confidence and empowerment.
I’ll also share my own journey — how creating Franky Banky and Ti-Ger led me to start giving cartooning workshops, ultimately inspiring this very book. Now, it’s your turn!

Start by warming up with a step-by-step guide on how to draw Franky Banky, his mischievous sidekick Ti-Ger, and their friend from the dark side of the moon, Spud.
Then, unleash your creativity as you design your own character based on the characteristics of your stutter.
Previous drawing ability not required. I give you a few quick drawing lessons to get you started. Franky Banky even steps in to offer a hand!

I provide tips and story prompts to get your creative juices flowing.
You’ll also discover a gallery of unique characters created by others, each with its own story and personality. See how they turned their stuttering into sidekicks — and get inspired to do the same!

As mentioned earlier, while this book is mainly about stuttering, its ideas can apply to many parts of life. There are samples from people who don’t stutter who are autistic or have feelings of anxiety.
Once your character comes to life, you can take the next step by creating a comic strip based on your stuttering experiences.
You can also share your comic with the world — giving others a glimpse into what it’s like to stutter. Spreading stuttering awareness!

Quotes from people in my book who drew cartoons and comics about their stutter

“As someone in my mid-50s, I’ve always seen my stammer as something negative, a burden within me. But this session completely shattered that notion. I now view my stammer not so much as part of me but as part of my journey. It’s something that accompanies me on this ride, a fellow traveler rather than something to hide away.”
– Patrick
“In the session I looked at my stammer as a character and it made me feel better about my stammer. It now feels like I always have a tiny sidekick with me now. It made me feel more positive and in the future it will stay by my side through the ups and downs of having a stammer. It was good to express my stammer differently through art work!”
– Scarlett, aged 8.

“There was a little boy sitting next to me… His work was mind blowing. And I could just sense so much pent up anger and emotion and frustration that was released by his pencil, but also a sense of care and compassion (he wanted to feed it pizza, which he loved). I felt that with that, there was something therapeutic, something healing about releasing or expressing his emotions, or maybe just sitting with those feelings and allowing them to be present.”
– Nic, speech therapist

“Daniele Rossi, just look at what you made possible!! I gave this 10 year old some homework last week. He should draw his stutter. He came to the practice with this wonderful drawing. We turned it into a comic! (thanks to your workshop!) He drew his block. The comic tells the story about the boy standing in front of his class when his block turns up to bully him. Just look at how he fights his block and turns out to be the great winner! I am so proud of this boy!! He went home proud and with a big smile.”
– Manon, speech therapist
